Sports, Sports, Sports

O.k. I know this isn't a sports blog, but frankly I've been having a tough time thinking of what to write lately anyways, and there are some interesting sports goings on. First let's talk MSU. How awesome was Saturday as a State fan? This game had all the classic signs of an old-school MSU letdown game. Am I right guys, am I right (inside joke for Tim there)? I'll admit to saying "ah crap MSU just blew it" out loud when Wisconsin got their last score. But thankfully I stuck with the game to see the end. This is a serious change from the last few years, and I for one am getting fired up for the future of MSU football. I think discipline is so key for this team right now, this is why as I mentioned previous, I am big on Dantonio right now. Plus, how nice is it to have a kicker who can hit a fifty yarder (next to last field goal) and a forty-four yard in the clutch to win? Sure he was a bit shaky for the Michigan game, but other wise Swenson has been money. Maybe I'm overstating this win, since we were favored? All I know is I'm glad Dantonio was there and not John L. Smith. Just check out the penalties (scroll down for team stat comparisons). Penalties drive me crazy and they are way down in the last two years, so I think that's pretty big in that it helps during the game and shows discipline as a team. If I'm reading too much into this feel free to let me know.

Next sports topic for Michiganders (current and former) is the AI deal. That's right, if you haven't heard, Allen Iverson is now a Piston. I really hate giving up McDyess and Billups in this deal... but good things may come. First, this is AI and the dude can score. Don't forget he basically single handedly took the Sixers to the finals once. He's in a contract year, and always competes hard so you know he's going to play hard. He wants a ring so I'm not worried about his commitment. I just hope he focuses on taking good shots and lets things come to him. The part that has me really excited though is next summer. Can you say LeBron James, Detroit Piston? If not him there will be some serious coin available to land some big fish in D-town for sure. Anyways, I welcome comments on how this trade works our for this year and beyond. Also MSU comments are always welcome, and I'm going to be putting up a poll question so check that out too.

I figured that this would be the best forum for expressing the reason for my vote. I think that the Lions would be the best of the group because Detroit has seen better days in general and the Lions winning would be an extraordinary event that might at least cheer people up.

First, Kurt cancer will be cured before that pick happens.

Now on to Aaron's last few posts.

AI a Piston great. Landing LeBron in 2010 even better. Just imagine
LeBron-3 spot
rip 2spot
stuckey point
Maxiel or other power forward
Amir Johnson at 23 years old starting at center.

That is a sweet starting five. Did I mention LeBron would be worth 2 players. Just look at what the Cavs have given him as teammates. Nothing says intimidation like Dontrel Marshall or Booby whatever his last name is or Brazialian Side show Bob or Eric Snow 7 years past his prime or at one point Wally XYXZERBIAK or any other hack that Cleveland has had over the past 4 years.

This year we will be back in the Eastern Conf. championship series for sure. We could beat the Celtics too, we'll see. I don't know if anyone will be as good as the Lakers. I hope Utah and New Orleans are in the Western Conf. finals personally. Hate the Spurs, Dont hate the current Lakers roster, but still hate the Lakers.

As for MSU. I was at that game with Ash, Davey and my Dad. It was sweet. Although I almost could not look as the kick went up. As Aaron said in any other year since 1999 and before that 1987 MSU would have missed the field goal, wait they would have first had an off-sides penalty, then kick it good from 5 yards deeper, only to have it called back because they let the play clock expire. Only to have the next kick get blocked, or miss wide right.

It made me very happy. We have turned the corner. No more John L self slaps, no more top 10 pre seasons only to end in drug rehab (Smoker/Rogers year Where there's smoke there's fire, YIKES) Dantonio is an amazing coach. Next year will be even better. Fall 2010 we will be playing for the national championship in Football. That will be nice as in the Spring the Pistons with LeBron will be winning the NBA title just after the Spartan Hoops team makes it to yet another final four.

Notice no mention of the Lions in that story.

As for the Tigers I accept just being competitive for a change, that has been nice. Our new pitching coach will help next year.

Wings, I don't really care too much.

Wow that was long. That was like a months worth of my posts:)

Good comments. KVB, Sarah agrees with exactly what you said and I think will vote for the Lions. This was a tough question for me... it was between Pistons and MSU football, and I had to Go State! I see exciting times ahead for the Pistons, Spartans, and of course Culpepper (hangs head in shame). As you guys know I'm a bigger Bears than Lions fan anyways, so while I agree with Kurt's sentiment I'd rather the Bears win.
