He said the final decision to stage the event with Lin lip-synching to another girl's voice was taken after a senior member of China's ruling Communist Party politburo attended a rehearsal.
"He told us there was a problem that we needed to fix it, so we did," he said, without disclosing further details of the order.
Hopefully the girls won't need too much therapy when all is said and done. The opening ceremonies were cool, but on a serious note I couldn't help but think about this (read the last line under design) and now Milli Vanilli (less serious note) all over again.

Why can't all stories like these just end like Singing in the Rain? Sad stories. China has always had issues like these involving women's images. Those poor girls. Have you ever read A Thousand pieces of Gold?
Too bad, in an attempt to make a good impression, they really blew it. This olympics was so important to China and it will be tainted (at least for a while) by the trumped up performances. Hopefully it will die down like the Utah bribing scandal.
What an ugly situation...Yeah that was a bad call. Like you said it wasn't like the other little girl looked like an alien. That does send the wrong message. How sad.
Yeah the Chinese say 2 died and 10 actually did. For being an emerging super power they sure don't do math well. Like adding the "cuter" girl, or subtracting 8 deaths, come on China that aint smart.
