You mean anything?

Do you ever hear people say that they wouldn't go back to high school and their teenage years for anything in the world? That's something I hear once in a while that I think is a little funny. I have a lot of good memories from my high school years, and I didn't have anything especially interesting going on during this time. I guess it was just a good time to have fun and not have to worry about responsibility too much, like going to the Tibetan Freedom Concert quitting my job a month sooner than I planned to make it happen. (FYI it was the concert in D.C. in June 1998, and yes that's the one were a girl got struck by lightning on the first day) Anyway, to pick a Smashing Pumpkins song for the playlist I thought about it a while... they have a lot of songs by it could really only ever be Mayonaise just for the nostalgia value. This reminds me of a funny side note. I can remember when they first got big and were getting videos on TV so you could actually see the band. (Remember when Billy had hair, weird right?) Well, I remember having a conversation multiple times about the one band member you could never tell if it was a guy or girl. Turns out it was a guy. Good times, and I think I could handle being a teenager again and going back to high school.

Never thought I'd see the day...

I never really liked Neil Young when I was a kid, but my dad did. I would always give him a hard time about it when he'd make us listen to him. Now it's not as if he'd force us to listen to his music all that often, I guess mostly in the car. In fact that reminds me of something funny my parents always said about us kids while we were growing up. When we'd go on long trips my parents would bring their tapes and my older brothers would bring theirs too. If my parents would try to play their tapes we'd complain until they put one of our tapes in. Then we'd all fall asleep leaving our parents awake to listen to our stuff. Of course by the time we woke back up they would be playing their stuff again, and the complaining would start up again. Even when I was a kid I liked a lot of my parents music, some of the music took some time but it grew on me (like Neil who's now on the play list), and some I'll never like. That's right, I'm talking about you Joe Cocker, you suck and I'll never come around on you. It was actually a tough choice to decide which song of Neil's to use... almost went with "Cinnamon Girl", or "Heart of Gold", but decided on "Razor Love" for this one.

New Track

Ok, so I wanted to start trying to post here more often since I still like the idea I had originally. I thought I could get more people on board to keep this blog going and full of original content and links. I didn't exactly post a ton myself and others weren't into it too much either so I'm going to work at it, even though I'm not sure if anyone will notice.
I wanted to make special mention of the Spiritualized track I just added to the playlist. This is the type of song I love to add and hope people will listen to. I realize that a lot of people may not love this type of band/music but I just hope to introduce more people to it to give it a shot. I really like their music because it's always evolving and no two albums or even songs really sound the same with Jason Pierce. For this song "Soul on Fire" I love the lyrics... especially because Pierce seems like he's doing well after all he's been through with drugs and illness. I had heard songs from the group but really got into them when I listen to the "Let It Come Down" album (cover seen to the right), which I am a big fan of. Anyway, the single has me excited for the new album. It's always good to hear from an artist you like, but worry could be the next Layne Staley. I was actually thinking about him the other day... how much I liked Alice in Chains, but hated the thinking about them when they were still around. Hated it because you knew how good the songs were, but that they wouldn't last because of Staley. I was always just waiting to hear in the news about the OD that would finally kill him.
Sorry that last little bit was a downer, but the good news is Pierce seems to be on the right track still making good music. Hope you enjoy it.

Good for a laugh

So, I'm not sure anyone even looks on here, but I thought this was a funny site. So check this link when you are looking to kill five minutes. Also, as you can see I put a playlist with some songs. I know not everyone will love all of them, but the idea is to get a mix of songs you might know and some you might not (but will maybe like and want to check them out) and also a mix of styles, so enjoy those. I do change the tracks from time to time and if you have suggestions of songs you'd like to hear on the list you can email or comment and I'll see what I can do.
